So Eggciting!
I’ve been a bad blogger. Like so many others I read, the late summer beauty and weather has taken me captive and kept me away from my computer keyboard. My outdoor hobby’s have rendered me completely blog blocked! I am here now though with a few updates and announcements.
First… I am extremely giddy with excitement over our newest addition to our family. In 2 weeks, I will be picking up our new…. Silver Laced Cochin henS. Thats right, I said 2. Its nicer to introduce both at the same time. I will be sure to show you pictures!

Tour of S-wood North !
We haven’t done this in a while.. then again, we haven’t done anything new up there in a while either. But I promised Linda from HERE that I would post a walk about for her. Since we didnt go anywhere except to retrieve our eaten trail camera, I thought I would stick close to the house and show you as much as I can.
I want to explain however, our Shmoopywood is VERY wooded. Like it gets dark 2 hours earlier on our lot than anywhere else kind of wooded The lot was logged many years ago but they logged for pine so its all hardwood. In [...]
“Smile”- Alan Funt
Remember a few weeks ago here when I explained that we had purchased a trail camera and were putting it in different places throughout S-Wood boundaries to see where the deer were? Well the last time we were up there (weeks ago) we placed the camera on a sturdy but half gone tree facing a small clearing. We chose this placement because we had seen moose prints crossing over this area.
We set out yesterday to swap memory cards in the camera so we could come back and view the card and then set out to possibly retrieve the camera. If when we got back to the cabin [...]
Here Comes The Sun!
Sometimes I just start writing without knowing where it goes. Others I compose the whole entire blog entry in my head in the middle of the night and upon waking I rush to the computer to document it before I forget what I wanted to tell you guys. Then there are those times that I know I want to communicate with the world but I just don’t know what to say so I just say “hey world, this is what we did today”
SO guess what kind of blog-day today is?
Today Harry and I decided to skip being responsible, stop worrying and do what we want to do. So we woke [...]
Untamed Beauty
One of the reasons I love to go to s-wood so much is because of the lack of people and industry. I dont mean that we hate people but the crowds and industry take away from nature. I grew up near Boston so I am not used to seeing wild flowers just popping up randomly on the side of the road or in my driveway. S-wood is in a rural area and each home has its own character and story to tell. Just like the people in the homes.
here are some of the wild natural beauty that was spotted this weekend…
Apparently I am a professional mushroom photographer
Dave and I have really been trying to focus on getting to know our surroundings. In order to do this, we are taking regular trips into the woods together and we are trying to stay within the confines of our land only. Each week we go to S-wood we are challenging ourselves to come back with 1 item that we would like to identify.
Last week we brought back 2 leaves and a picture of a blob of goop that I had found in the woods that turned out to be beech tree leaves, striped Maple leaves, and brain slime. I was so excited to learn we had a [...]
Mother Nature is Patriotic!
We had a weekend up at S-wood and what a great weekend we had!! You see, here in New Hampshire, it has been raining since… well… I can’t really remember when it started but I know its been WEEKS since we had a sunshiney day! THis weekend was sunny and gorgeous with the ‘occasional interuption’ from mother nature who felt as though she would like to exibit her patriotism and do some fireworks of her own.
Here is our flag which proudly hangs on the front of Swood when we are there, and in the background you can see Mom Nature’s show coming over the mountain.
Also, while we were there soaking [...]
2009 wish list!
So many exciting things are starting to happen and I cannot wait! We did NOT get up to the cabin as hoped this weekend. Sometimes life gets in the way I’ll tell ya! Anyway I did promise to give you a glimpse into the spring though with what our plans for 2009 are. We have so many hopes and wishes for this year! One of the more exciting things is that we will be planting a ‘trial’ garden up there. Dave is working (in his head rmember) on a way to automatically irrigate the garden and “critter proof” it as best as he can.
We are also planning on adding onto the [...]
Real People, Real Problems, Really Great place!
Off to cabin we go tomorrow (collective “yay”). The days are growing shorter and the nights are growing colder and our days are numbered. So now begins our crunchtime if we want to spend any time at all up there this winter. The wood stove is sufficient to keep us warm at night in the cold but it takes a good 6-8 hours to bring the cabin to a temperature that is comfortable. Then we have to deal with the driveway that is at a very steep incline. This driveway with 2 + inches of snow is impossible to pass and unfortunately with the street plow there is no where [...]
